Rather like with the beaches there are many restaurants catering for all tastes and pockets and you will soon be able to make your own recommendations.

Remember that even the exclusive restaurants normally have an affordable lunch-time fixed price menu where a most enjoyable couple of hours can be spent and most restaurants have a varied range of individual dishes.

It is worth trying at least once at a top class restaurant if you possibly can.
That said however Les Traiteurs in the village is excellent for a filling simple meal at lunchtime, you will need to book the day before if you require an evening meal. A similar lunchtime meal can be obtained at the Four Seasons at Lehon including wine at Le Petit Paris at Lehon plus an eat and drink all you can menu at the Flambee at St Rieul. All three are priced at just over £5 per head, but be prepared for a long siesta after visiting St Rieul. Most villages have a restaurant which is worth trying and locally Jugon, Merdrignac and Broons are in easy reach.

For something a little more sophisticated then Dinan or even Dinard should be tried. If you stroll down Rue Jerzual in Dinan, especially in the early evening, there are numerous restaurants some from varying cultures. Our particular favourite is one set in the wall though for the life of me at the time of preparing these notes I cannot remember the name of the restaurant!

For what it is worth we have enjoyed all the following:-

Maison de Bricourt in Cancale which is very expensive but has all sorts of awards and the seafood can hardly be bettered. A little cheaper is The Continental in Cancale.

Les Terrasses in Dinan (telephone 96-39-09-60) is in a super position in the old port area.

As part of a good walk La Fauconniere at Cap Frehel has a very good reputation and should be tried and you may well enjoy the moules at De La Mer at Le Val Andre. Particular dishes that you might like would be the ubiquitous crepes and more rarely, and much more expensive, the Pres Sale lambs which are bred on the salt marshes near Mont St Michel – delicious if you can find them on a reasonable menu As a town Paimpol is often overlooked and is worth a visit and it has a number of good restaurants, one we like being Le Grain de Sel.

Sea food is unsurpassed in Brittany but Chateaubriand steak is world renowned. The fruits and vegetables when in season are delicious and try not to miss the globe artichokes in particular or the Coco of Paimpol which is an haricot bean that has won an A.O.C. award ! You may care to try a cruise on a floating restaurant e.g. the Chateaubriand which provides lunch and evening meals from the Port de la Richardais near the barrage on the Rance and cruises round the bays of Dinard and St Malo while you dine. Prices around 180 – 240 ff including cruise.

More details on 99 46 44 44. Do bear in mind that most restaurants close earlier than in Britain at night. Erquy is best for scallops, while mussels are produced in vast quantities at le Vivier-sur-Mer and St Jacut-de-la-Mer, where they can be seen clustering around thousands of dark wooden posts in the shallow seas. You can even take a ride on the curious amphibious craft that trundles from le Vivier-sur-Mer to visit the mussel and oyster beds.

As always please add in your favourites and any comments for the assistance of future guests – I`m sure this is one section that will rapidly expand ! Bon Appetit !!
