Brittany is a very popular area for walks and if you go any tourist information office you will find a very useful selection of walks round that area which although it is often in French is easy to follow varying from ¾ of an hour to 5 hours depending on your energy.
Those around Jugon les Lacs and Dinan are particularly good. There
are two major walks while near the coast that you can dip in and
out of rather like the long distance walks that have now been mapped
out in England. There are also several new walks now mapped around
the general Ereac area details of which are in the booklet at the
house. |
Bartholomew’s have published a useful little book called "Walking in Brittany" that has a number of easy walks within easy striking distance of the house. We enjoy one walk at Pointe Du Grouin that is only short and very easy but includes one gorgeous beach, though it can be crowded in the high season.
.
Later in the walk Port Mer is available for a bite to eat though
if you are in that area Cancale is an absolute must being a pretty
town with marvellous sea food restaurants. Nearly all the walks
can be adapted to include interesting meal stops. |
You should also try to get to Cap Frehel which has walks of varying levels and super views. The ramparts of St Malo (intra muros) and the old streets in Dinan make for a very pleasant contrast to country walks.
Try to go to St Malo at low tide so you can walk out to the National Fort and the island Grande Be Ile where Rene Chateaubriand is buried. There is a pleasant walk from Val-Andre along the coastguard Watchpath to Port Dahouet.
Close to the house there is the Foret de Paimpont with walks through the forest linked to the Arthurian legends that abound in the area or the bracing sea walks around Paimpol to Pointe de l`Arcouest. Again please leave your own recommendations. |
