Cider is Brittany`s national drink usually drunk from a bowl either still or sparkling. You should also try the pear cider, apple aperitifs, eau de vie and the cider brandy (Calvados).

There is a brewery producing real ale at Morlaix in Finistere that might be worth a trek to on a bad weather day apart from the drive back ! As far as wine is concerned it is very reasonable in the supermarkets, less so in restaurants unless you are at Les Templiers or St Rieul.

The best localish wines are those of the Loire and I guess Muscadet (sur lie) or the less well known Gros Plant is as good as any with sea-food
Brittany does produce a little wine of its own on the Rhuys peninsula and if you ever come across a bottle please leave a note of where it can be bought so I can get one when we`re next over. Legend has it that you need three people and a wall to help you drink it,one to pour, one either side to stop you falling sideways and the wall behind to catch you as you fall backwards.

There are several interesting cider museums/farms also selling unusual by-products of the industry.
